Datafield ascent and decent to go for my destination

Hello,

maybe the question is a bit simple, as I’m still a beginner. I’m currently working on creating a data field for an activity. I want to have two fields that display the altitude gain and loss towards the destination during an active navigation. So far, I haven’t found anything suitable online. Perhaps I’m searching incorrectly. Thank you.

If you are trying to use something like Activity.Info.totalAscent, on devices without a baro altimeter (like the va5), what you see on the watch may be very wrong even with GPS elevation. When the activity is synced, the default is an elevation correction is applied for devices without a baro. Just something to keep in mind.

I own a Fenix 7 with a barometer and altimeter. I would like to know something else, for example, when I am hiking up a mountain that is 1500m high and I've walked a bit, gaining 100 meters in elevation, the display should show that I have 1400 meters left to climb. Can't this information be extracted from a GPX file? We can see this information in the elevation profile as well, as shown in the Imgur link. I specifically want that circled information without the graphical plot.

If you know the elevation of the destination then you can display the difference between that and your current elevation.

If you want instead see the remaining total ascent then I have no idea how to do that

Yeah, I want to know the remaining total ascent. Thought that would be easier haha xD.

That datafield (Total Ascent) simply shows the same thing as the native total ascent field (which is exposed to CIQ via Activity.Info.TotalAscent).

The only reason it exists is for users who want to see that field on devices which lack a baro, since those devices lack the corresponding native field. (Garmin hides it bc GPS elevation is notoriously imprecise, which is why elevation correction is applied by default if your device lacks a baro.)

IOW this field is useless for ppl who have a baro, and of dubious utility for ppl who don’t.

Unfortunately I don’t think it’s possible in CIQ. You could always submit a feature request for this data to be exposed in CIQ, but I wouldn’t hold my breath.
