Why Garmin should consider including Paragliding activity in the next update. (Proposal)

Purchasing a Garmin product (watch) only to discover that paragliding is not included among the activities in 2024 was disheartening. Despite numerous discussions in forums, it appears the idea has been dismissed due to paragliding being labeled an extreme sport.

This proposal aims to demonstrate the merit of including paragliding as a dedicated activity option on Garmin smartwatches.

Safety Considerations:  Contrary to any perceived safety concerns, paragliding is a well-regulated sport with established safety protocols and equipment standards. Participants undergo rigorous training and adhere to guidelines set by governing bodies to ensure safe practices. Furthermore, the inclusion of paragliding as an activity option on Garmin smartwatches would not serve as a primary flight instrument but rather as a supplementary tool for tracking, analyzing and enhancing the overall experience.

Community Testimonials:  Numerous paragliding enthusiasts, including myself, attest to the profound benefits of the sport. For instance, the practice of "hike and fly" exemplifies a harmonious blend of physical activity, mental relaxation, and connection of body and spirit to nature. I frequently engage in this activity even alongside a retired friend, a 72-year-old individual with diabetes, who finds immense joy and vitality through paragliding. His regular participation (almost every single day) underscores the accessibility and safety of the sport, even for individuals with diverse health conditions.

Market Demand:  Paragliding represents a thriving modern sport with a dedicated community of athletes seeking innovative tools to enhance their experiences. By catering to this demographic, Garmin can tap into a burgeoning market segment and solidify its position as a leader in outdoor adventure technology. I believe the inclusion of paragliding as an activity option aligns with Garmin's commitment to empowering users in their pursuit of active lifestyles and exploration.

Technical Implementation: Leveraging existing GPS and altitude sensors, Garmin can easily incorporate paragliding as an activity option, offering features like hike and flight tracking, flight duration, altitude, speed, etc.

Conclusion: Garmin's inclusion of paragliding as an activity option would meet the evolving needs of outdoor enthusiasts, showcase innovation, and foster community engagement. I urge Garmin to seriously consider this proposal and collaborate with the paragliding community to deliver an enhanced experience.

I hope to hear from Garmin and trust it will heed the paragliding community's input and assess this as the next update for their watches.
