Github repo status?

Is the Garmin github repo for Connect IQ sample apps going to be actively used/promoted? I refer to this: https://github.com/garmin/connectiq-apps

I have a bunch of stuff that I can clean up and contribute to it via pull requests if that's of interest?

Cheers,
Douglas
  • Hmm... that's a good question. That's been pretty neglected, hasn't it? I know we want to do more with it, but I don't know whether anyone has anything specific planned.

Okay. I'm going to fork the repo then, add in my stuff and make a pull request. After that it will be up to you. :)

And I'll probably blog about it too while I'm at it.

  • I admit, I knew about this back when it started.... But I NEVER release the full source for anything I do. (I'll post bits of code for a specific question). The "samples" in the SDK are a very good place to look for help (maybe not everything in same one, but the pieces of the answer in different samples)

When it comes to discussions, the Garmin forums work well for me.

It might be folks like me that made it kind of fade away... Sorry Brandon! :)

    I've created a fork of the repo -- https://github.com/douglasr/connectiq-apps

I've also added a simple digital watch face to the repo -- https://github.com/douglasr/connectiq-apps/tree/master/watchfaces/simple-digital -- which I hope will serve as a reasonably good example of using layouts to support multiple devices, in combination with a background image (the Garmin logo) and rendering additional text that doesn't utilize layouts. I didn't spend a huge amount of time cleaning it up as I'm not sure what Garmin intends to do with the repo but I've created a pull request so we'll see.

    Cheers,
    Douglas
  • Have there been any more thoughts from anyone at Garmin on this?

  • I see that @Ken.ConnectIQ just merged a pull request into the repo so it looks like things are happening there.

Is there anything that Garmin would really like to be added? I'm happy to clean up and include any of the stuff I've played around with.

    Cheers,

Admittedly I'm not 100% sure what we're wanting to do with the GitHub repository at this point. The pull request you mentioned is part of an upcoming blog post so it had priority to make it in.

I've been raising the issue this week to determine what we want to do with the GitHub repository. I would like to see your request reviewed and pulled in as I think the repository would be best used to gather developer community contributed resources. I just can't say for sure at the moment what our plans are.
