Could not find symbol 'initialize'

No, I tried this;

		if (WatchFace has :initialize) {
 			WatchFace.initialize();
		}

but it still crashed, so it thinks it has initialize, but it can't run it. It's a special kind of broken.

I think WatchFace.initialize() itself is calling another class's initialize() function (such as View.initialize()), and that's where it's crashing. I don't think the crash is actually implying that Watchface.initialize() itself cannot be found.

Not trying to diminish the apparent bug, just speculating on the problem. Based on my stack trace when running a watchface on garminswim2, and the OP's stack trace, I think my guess is correct. Note how the line that crashes isn't in an actual project source file.

Looks to be a bug in the swim2 device file.  The fr45 is basically the same device CIQ wise, and it runs fine for that.  I did a bug report:
