Only getting a .bak file in APPS/LOGS

On the infrequent occasions my app crashes in the field, on my Fenix7, I only ever see a .bak file in my APPS/LOGS folder and it only ever has the latest crash report .

What happened to the log file itself?

Have I missed a tech. note on a change to crash logging?

(The crashes are totally inexplicable and I put it down to a malfunction in the Garmin environment)

When a crash happens, the ciq_log.yml is used. When that gets synced (for ERA) it gets renamed ciq_log.bak. This prevents the ciq_log.yml getting synced more than once.

Yes, it gets renamed, instead of the old procedure which appended reports to the yml file till it was "full" and then renamed to .bak.

This might work for some, but it feels like a backward step.

If you have multiple crashes before the log file gets synced, you'll see that in the file. If it's synced after each crash, the file will only show one, but the crashes will all show in ERA
