HELP! not enough space, vivoactive 3

Hello, I have a vivoactive 3 watch, I have reset it to factory version several times because it won't let me install a watch screen, it indicates that the memory is full and that I have to delete data to get enough space, it also doesn't allow me to perform any updates on it. Same problem, I have deleted the activities, deleted the histories, etc., etc. When I connect it to the laptop in USB mode, I notice that it has 7 free megabytes out of the 9 that it comes with and the unit as such does not have partitions or system space, I also do not find hidden folders or files, it frustrates me a lot that having 7 MB free I cannot install a 600kb screen, so I have thought about formatting it as if it were a USB memory but I am not sure that can happen, what do you recommend?

  • For CIQ apps there is a separate max for space used by the prg files, as well as the number of apps installed.  You can see where things are for these in the CIQ Mobile app.  Here's a fr255.  This is different than the total free space on the device

In this case there is a max of 32 app.  "Space Available" will vary by device as well as the apps installed.  Here I show 15mb free with 13 apps installed, but the prg files (not to be confused with the memory used while running) are small - say 50kb and not close to the 600kb you mention. "Space Available" must be 600kb or greater for you to update your 600kb prg

note in the case of this fr255 there is about 3.2gb space available on the device itself. but only 15mb for CIQ.

Garmin watches absolutely do have hidden storage which isn't accessible to the end user via USB by any means. Some of the stuff that's in this hidden storage is not found in the user-accessible USB file system; other stuff is a copy of what's in the user-accessible FS.

You'll see this when you change certain settings (like wi-fi network settings) and nothing changes on the USB file system, or if you delete certain files and they're magically restored. Do not try this, but if you delete all the files, a lot of things will come back (like default activity profiles). (Basically, there's a whole copy of the "factory default" file system somewhere that the user can't access.)

I also wouldn't format the file system, since at best it will accomplish nothing and at worst it will brick your watch.

  • Looks like there is only 1mb available for prg files, and if your single app is 600kb, once it's installed, there's not enough space left for it to be updated.  There's less thank 500k left and to get an update, there must be 600k available.

600k is pretty large for a prg file - can that be reduced?

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and guess that the poster is not the developer of the app.

it won't let me install a watch screen, it indicates that the memory is full

In this case, as the watchface is very large (more than half the size of your available app space), it seems that you need to uninstall the watchface first, then install it again. If the watchface has settings (in the Connect IQ app), they will be lost and you will need to redo them.

This is a probably a situation that has room for improvement on Garmin's end.
