Set custom lap distance

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if it's possible to programatically set the lap distance for an activity recording.

For example the user does his activity (swimming/biking/running) on a well known course and wants to keep track of the laps manually without GPS because he is indoors or under water. When he presses the lap button a new lap is added to the activity. I now want to be able to set the covered distance belonging to that lap to a previously set "distance" value.

When syncing with the Garmin connect mobile app I'd like to see the total distance covered and in the "Lap" section each lap with time and distance.

I know that in the SDK 2.1 preview it's possible to set custom FIT fields with custom data (which can be set to be shown in garmin connect (which seems to not work with the current version of garmin app)) but I'd like to use already existent fields which are shown in the Garmin connect application.

Any ideas

Or will that feature be part of the official 2.1/1.3 release?

Thank you and best regards

  • Excuse my poor English, I'm using Google Translate. Have there been any updates in the last 10 years? I recently moved to a colder climate and started running laps at an indoor track. I'm very surprised by the lack of a manual lap length setting or GPS-less measuring device. You can press the "lap" button while running around the track, and then manually change the incorrect distance to the correct one after the workout. That's what I started doing a few days ago. But yesterday, I had a suggested workout, and the "lap" button simply skipped parts of it. I was running and counting laps on my fingers. Today, I remembered seeing mechanical counters in old movies and am going to buy one to track my laps. On my left hand, I'll have a $1,000 computer with a bunch of sensors, which is about 200 times more powerful than the computer that sends astronauts to the moon. And in my right hand, I'll have a mechanical counter (and then a calculator), only because the smart computer on my left hand can't perform the simplest functions of a calculator and counter. I'm not joking or exaggerating; I really do have to order a mechanical counter. Are indoor track runners so few that major manufacturers simply don't pay attention to indoor tracks?
