SDK 6.2.0 crash and older versions?

I want to get into Garmin development for the first time, downloaded the SDK, and it promptly crashed on install. As far as I can tell from the forums, this is a known bug that "only" affects Windows and Linux. Well, I don't have a mac, so if I want to test something out now, where can I download the latest non-crashing SDK for Windows? And what version is that? Thanks.

EDIT: In case it benefits anyone else: By deleting the configuration folder for the SDK manager (<profile>\AppData\Roaming\Garmin) and re-launching first-time setup, it seems to have cleared the error when launching SDK Manager, at least long enough for me to install the SDK's

Hmm, it's the SDK Manager that crashes for me. I don't have any older versions, but shortly after I launch sdkmanager.exe, it crashes with the assert in dir.cpp:409

For me, the SDK Manager crashed/vanished after 6.2.0 was downloaded but before I could set it as the current SDK. All I had to do was run the sdkmanager again to set it to be the current SDK.

There's a bug report about this with the new sdkmanager on windows. Kyle says they will roll out a fix Monday or Tuesday

For me, the SDK Manager crashed/vanished after 6.2.0 was downloaded but before I could set it as the current SDK. All I had to do was run the sdkmanager again to set it to be the current SDK.

This is a problem we haven't seen yet—the only thing we had noticed was the issue jim_m_58 described. tags Are you seeing this exact same issue on Windows and Linux? Did clearing the config as you described only temporarily address the issue, or has it functioned without error since?

It appears to have permanently fixed the issue on my Windows 11 laptop. But this is trivially reproducible. I did the exact same thing on my Windows 10 desktop and got the exact same result:

Neither machine had any Garmin software or SDK previously installed.

(I haven't tried the SDK on Linux yet)

something else with the problem you folks have seen. I don't use my notebook much for ciq, but decided to update it to 6.2.0. first updated the extension and that went fine. Opened the SDK Manager and it updated to 1.0.5. But before pulling 6.2.0, I noticed I had SDKs going back to the 3.x SDKs and decided to remove the old ones. About 1/2 the time when I removed one, the SDKManager crashed/disappeared. It happened again when I pulled down 6.2.0

tags I'm thinking this might be the same issue we had seen, but you're just fortunate enough to get a wxWidgets call stack where we didn't see one. I've filed a separate ticket just in case this is a new issue.

jim_m_58 I've been trying to reproduce this SDK removal crash and so far haven't been able to. I'll keep downloading older SDKs and removing them and see if I can catch it.

I am on win 11, with this for java, in case that matters:

java version "1.8.0_241"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.8.0_241-b07)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 25.241-b07, mixed mode)

I had maybe 10 older SDKs, and just went down the list of older ones when I was removing them. Maybe try having a few old ones, close the SDK manager, open it again, and start deleting?

I'm seeing the same crash as @tags. In my case it is win11 in Parallels on a Mac (because I can't get VSCode and the sim to work together on MacOS ).

Deleting the ...\Roaming\Garmin folder didn't work initially. I had to run the manager 3 times before it stopped crashing.

Also, when I first downloaded the manager it couldn't find the DLLs in the included bin folder so I had to copy them to the same folder as the EXE.

I just ran the SDK mgr and it indicated that 6.2.1 is available and it downloaded it okay but crashed afterwards. I reran the mgr and was then able to select 6.2.1 as the current SDK.

Yeah, this is the known issue I mentioned earlier in the thread. I suspect we're all talking about the same thing, but it seems like the wxWidgets call stack is only appearing on Windows 11. Some other folks on my team have Win 11 machines available, so we'll see if we can reproduce it to be sure, but in the meantime I've got tickets made so engineering can take a looks.

Fortunately. relaunching SDK Maanager allows you to select the SDK and proceed normally.
