Is there no way to share beta versions of my app without just asking users to manually install rpg file?

Sharing just the rpg file makes them not able to do any settings. I wish I could just invite users or share the link to my beta version, is that possible?

  • Only you can download a beta app.  Allowing you to allow some other people to download it has been discussed since beta apps were introduced (2017-2018 timeframe) but nothing has changed. At the 2018 CIQ Summit, AlphaMonkey even said to me it was something they wanted to do but nothing changed.

As far as settings and a sideload, what I've done for years, is that in the sim, use app settings to change things to what you want, and then, send a user both the prg file as well as the set file from the sim.  Another option for an app is to do on-device settings, either with or without regular app settings.

  • Hmmm makes this whole beta function pretty useless. Loading it on my watch myself is no problem. It would have been nice to use for a select group of users :/

  • Actually I find beta apps really useful if you are testing app settings or fitContrib.  While no one else can install the app, you can test these without other users running into issues.

I also find it really useful for apps I want to be private.  For example, I have a glance/widget to control my garage door.  I can update the beta app in the store and the devices I use will be updated without sideloading to each one.
