How often do you guys do background pulls for weather data? I have mine set to every 30 mins, but feel like it still drains the battery a little faster. But maybe I'm just imagining it.
Just curious what rate you guys have it set to.

For my apps that do a makeWebRequest for weather in a background service, I use settings so a user can change how often the weather is requested, with the default being every 15 minutes and the max, once an hour The battery impact will be different based on the specific garmin device
Weather no longer requires a background service. I love the (new?) weather service that pulls data from the closest weather station. I run it frequently and enjoy watching the weather station selection change as I ride.
Depending on where you live, Garmin Weather isn't that accurate. Where I live, the weather station is at the airport, and I live on the other side of a small mountain from that. It can be raining at the airport and blue sky where I am. With OWM, I switch between two stations, both on the same side of the mountain as I am. With Weather Underground, I can get the weather from my backyard and there's a number of weather stations within a mile or two
Weather Underground is kind of a special case. They have "regular people" set up weather stations to get more localized data. I wonder what stations OWM is using (that aren't the standard ones at the airport).
Garmin doesn't seem to say where they get their weather data. It's not likely they are getting directly from the "official weather station" (they say "Local airports will be the most common official weather stations").
Maybe, this is the list of "official weather stations" and they are using NOAA data.
For me, with OWM, the two stations I switch between are a ranch south of me and a town east of me,
With Garmin Weather, there was a change a few months back where instead of showing the suburb I was in with my phone, and now always shows the airport by name (observationLocationName in current conditions)
My watch face has both options, for whichever service one likes :)
I've added that to my list of features i want to implement, ty!
Oh interesting and great point!
