First Timer Advice Needed: Looking to create a climb rate field to measure metres gained per km of distance

Hi, I've owned my Fenix 6 XPro for a couple of years now and the only thing it doesn't do and that I have been unable to find an app for that I could get on my old Suunto (I wrote the app on that myself) is a field that displays the climb rate for the current activity in real time.

I'm a fairly confident developer in VBA and SQL but have never tried my hand at developing my own app for Garmin.

The formula for what I want to do is very simple (current elevation gain/current distance).

Am I missing something that already exists? If not, how easy would it be for me to create this myself?

Typically, I've found a Connect IQ Field that does the job, but because of the daft 2 IQ field limit I think I may have to build something that combines this with another field I have.

This looks like it fits the bill perfectly :)

yes, limit of 2 ciq dfs can irritating, once I've even have reported bug for it but it's by design...

Taking into account that CIQ doesn't expose ready-for-use grade in their API, this topic is much more complex than it might seem. There are different methods to compute grade: moving average, least squares regression, Kalman filtering, etc. Which one method and which parameters are used in Garmin native grade field is a big riddle, so choosing the best math algorithm is the most difficult part of the implementation
