Connect IQ 2.1 SDK Preview!

The Connect IQ version 2.1 preview SDK is now available on the developer site!

We're excited about this release because it adds a bunch of new features that many Connect IQ developers have been asking for, like custom FIT recording, OAuth, Widget & App support for Edge products, and more! You can find out all about it and download it here:

http://developer.garmin.com/index.php/blog/post/connect-iq-2-biker-monkey

Since this is a preview, you won't be able to export apps for submission to the app store, but you can build apps to side load to your own device for development and testing purposes. Please give it a try! If you have feedback or notice any bugs, you can post to this forum or send your comments to the Connect IQ team at "][email protected].

Thanks!

Here is condensed diff of SDK API compared to 1.2.9: http://pastebin.com/s4Ji1YzU
  • Compiler error: Permission Required

I tried compiling one of my projects with the 2.1 SDK Preview, but got a compiler error saying: Permission Required.

This particular project uses activity monitoring.
I had to check the Steps under Permissions in the project settings in order to compile the project.

So, if you didn't explicitly check Steps permissions for your project in earlier versions of the SDK, you are now forced to do that.

Hope this might help some of you who don't understand why this error pops up.

    Happy compiling! :D
  • Out of memory error

My data field generates an Out Of Memory error when running it in the simulator using SDK 2.1. Using SDK 1.2.9 the field uses around 14.6 KB of memory.

Is there a reason why the new SDK leads to higher memory usage?
  • Hermo, I just noticed this (win10), but it seems to not be everything (?). I have a recording watch-app that accesses ActMon, and it's not needed, but a non-recording watch-app that does (maybe ActivityRecording implies "steps" privilege or something?)

Not sure. I just let others know where to start looking if they get stuck on this compiler error. The rest they can figure out themselves. ;)

Ok, I restarted Eclipse and now I need the "steps" permission for anything that uses ActMon..
  • Forerunner 230/5, 630 - out 6 months ago, but the old Aikido Connect IQ.
    Thanks Garmin!
  • Will the Epix get it? it is still on 1.2.1 ...
