App Store Statistics - total downloads are no longer available

The new statistics available to the developer showing download info for an app has removed information about total downloads and now shows % downloads based on the version of the app. The Version related info doesn't seem at all useful, particularly since users have no way to download old versions.

The Total Downloads info was useful in that it allowed a developer to see when downloads increased or decreased so that promotional activities could be correlated with downloads.

If you're going to display different information from total downloads what would be useful would be to display Total Downloads over time and Unique Users who have downloaded.

The breakdown of devices that's now available is interesting, though I am certain that it does not display all devices when it says it does.

PLEASE show total downloads over time again in the statistics.

  • How do I stop notifications from this thread ?!?

I started it more than 3 years ago, Garmin hasn't shown any interest in doing what provides developers useful information, so there's no point in continuing, or watching the ongoing complaints about what Garmin is, and is not, doing.

Please provide instructions for stopping these notifications.

The forum links don't provide a way to accomplish that that I can find.

  • It seems the display of these metrics coincides with the implementation of online purchasing by Garmin.

Yeah, iirc the change to the download metrics from an exact number to an approximation occurred slightly before built-in app monetization was announced by Garmin.

Is Garmin perhaps trying to hide developers' actual sales figures?

    That was always my assumption.

    See also:

    - The Google Play store does the exact same thing as Garmin (e.g. displays fuzzy numbers like "1M downloads", "50k downloads", etc.)

    - Apple doesn't even disclose approximate download numbers but only shows relative app ranking compared to other apps in the same store (e.g. "#10 in Health and Fitness")

As others have pointed out, it would be great if devs had access to the exact download numbers for their own apps. If the point is to hide sales numbers from other people, obviously it shouldn't be a problem for devs

Does the "Turn Reply notifications off" link on the sidebar not work? This is a serious question (I'm not trolling or trying to criticize, I'm genuinely curious if it's broken).

  • Last I looked that link showed "Turn Reply notifications on".

It now shows "Turn Reply notifications off".

    I'll give that a try.

    Thanks for the pointer.
