update needs review and it takes quite a while

I don't think I ever saw the message that an update (of an approved app) needs a review, but this morning ~8h ago I've published an update and since then it shows the message
"Please note: This app has a version update pending. Changes will not be visible until the approval is complete. This process could take up to 2 hours."

Did I do something wrong in the update or is that the norm?

When updates are submitted, there is a security scan of the IQ file that can take a little time (maybe up to an hour), but something like 24 hours or more is not acceptable.

Problem seems to be solved, the banner is gone and the new version number is displayed

The app is also visible in the Connect IQ android app

There were some fixes deployed yesterday that I know addressed some issues with search, but please post back here and tag me if updates continue to drag out.

I was contacted by the store team this morning, and there was problem with the security scanner that was causing app submissions to get stuck while being scanned. That's been addressed, and the apps have been pushed back to a "pending approval" state. My team will be getting these re-approved today. Apologies for the inconvenience!

Yep, it sounds like your app was one that was stuck. Now that it's back in "pending" we'll get it approved today. The 3-day estimate is to allow for weekends (e.g. if you submit an app for approval on a Friday, it's possible it won't get approved until Monday, depending on time zone offsets, etc.).
