Glance views from widget vs watch-app

So there are glance views on widgets and watch-apps. But as I've understood correctly, widgets are sort of deprecated.

But when I want a glance view on the 'older' models, like the Fenix6, I need a widget. As I can not select a glance view to be added in my glance list from a watch-app (or am I missing something here?)

Is there a way to enable this for the older models that do have glance views via widgets with a watch-app? I'll need a watch-app as type as I want to publish Complications. But it's a pity lots of users will lose glance support by changing app-type.

If you have a "widget" type app with a glance view, when you build for a CIQ 4.x device, it's actually a "super app" and the glace view works. It will also show up in the list of activites, as if you built a watch-app.

Add a 4.x target to your widget, and the glance view will show in the sim.

Yes, but the problem is I'll need a watch-app type for Complications. So my question is how to get glance views working on devices like the Fenix6?

On an f6, it needs to be a widget type app, but if you build that exact same app for the f7, it's "super app" but glances work fine..

Glances don't seem to be working correctly with the 4.2.0 beta 1 SDK, but do with the 4.1.7 SDK.

Oh yes that Beta has many issues it seems. Hope they’ll get fixed and Garmin is reading the threads here about the beta issues.

Anyway, that confirms my thinking. I’ll need to create two separate apps that support different devices. One widget, and one watch-app for the most recent devices that support Complications.

No, if you create a widget type app, it will work if compiled for a pre-4.0 device or 4.0 or later. You only need one app, not two.

Here's one of mine, with glances, that works on the 4.x devices as well as pre 4.0 devices.

To me, this same logic "should" work for complications, where when you build for a device with complications (which is 4.x or later) as you are building a "super app" and not a widget.

That would be ideal indeed. I hoped it would work that way, but it's not compiling when I use widget as type:

ERROR: fenix7system6preview: The following permission is invalid for a 'widget': ComplicationsPublisher
ERROR: Error occurred while reading application manifest file.

So, that still requires me to create two separate applications. Unless this is a Beta error and Garmin fixes that for the final release, that would be perfect.

I'm not doing anything about having two apps until I see what's in the next 4.2.x SDK.

Should we report these beta bugs? in the general IQ bugs thread? Or is there another place to bundle all these?
