Fenix5 connect to iPhone

I am trying to debug my app on a colleague's device but am unable to link it to my iPhone. It had Fenix 5X stamped on its rear.

When I try to pair it with Garmin Connect on my iPhone, the watch reports " Download Garmin Connect Mobile for full connected experience"

What does that mean?

I have Garmin Connect version 4.61.1.3 installed on my iPhone .

Do you have GCM open on your iPhone when you are trying to pair? And did you go to "Add Device" in GCM?

If you try the Connect IQ app instead, does the same thing happen? Do you see the pairing request on your phone? (I'm guessing not.)

I think it means that the watch is able to connect to your phone via bluetooth, but it doesn't think the Connect or Connect IQ apps are running. If you have a spare device you can unpair, you can easily reproduce this by closing Connect and Connect IQ, and attempting to re-pair that device with your phone.

I would ask you if Connect has bluetooth permissions, but it must if you can use it for other devices.

Connect IQ doesn't report the Fenix 5X as a device. just my old Fenix5, Fenix 7 and VA-HR.

Yes that's what it looks like, but it makes no sense. The Connect IQ app is running!

Yeah, it has to pair first, not to state the obvious. You should see a dialog pop up with a pairing request if it's working correctly.
