Found the problem. I was modifying the manifest.xml manually to set the permission and evidently, I sucked at it lol. Only recently did I noticed the Edit Permission command, so using that instead, I was able to compile and successfully run the example. So, this points to your manifest.xml file missing the required ComplicationSubscriber permission.

Sorry if it sounds like a silly question, but how one can test if system has Solar Input, since ithe test cannot be done in OnStart (where loading is supposed to be coded). Please note the SIM is still ok with the test, but it crashes on actual watch (without solar charging). 

That's exactly the test that makes the Epix Pro crashing in getInitalView

If it has solarIntensity, you want to null check it too.  If null, it's not available.  See the API doc

var solarIntensity as Lang.Number or Null

It works now, thank you Jim. But I still don't understand why 

if (System.getSystemStats() has :solarIntensity) { ... }

if (System.getSystemStats().solarIntensity != null) { ... }

What you are seeing is that

if (System.getSystemStats() has :solarIntensity)

returns true on some devices even if they don't support solar - solarIntensity is available.

Then you want to check the value of it to see is it's non null, like the doc says.

var hasSolar=false;
...
hasSolar=(System.getSystemStats() has :solarIntensity);
if(hasSolar) {
    if(System.getSystemStats().solarIntensity==null) {
        hasSolar=false;
    }
}

You want to keep doing the "has" check, but if that's true, you then want a 2nd level check for a null value.
