Vivoactive 3 Does not Automatically Pair with CIQ Sensor During Activity

I have a Vivoactive 3 watch using the Connect IQ MoxyField. The MoxyField is added to the Run activity data screen 2. When I start a Run activity, the data field never shows Moxy data but shows “Searching…” text. I discovered a workaround to establish connection with the Moxy sensor which is inconvenient.

 This does not work:

  1. Select the Run activity
  2. Press start/stop to start the run activity
  3. Navigate to screen 2
  4. Screen 2 shows “MO2 Data  Searching…”

 The work around:

  1. Select the Run activity
  2. Select “Settings|Data screens|Screen 2|Edit Data Fields”
  3. Press start/stop button to return to the Run activity.
  4. Press start/stop to start the run activity
  5. Navigate to screen 2
  6. Screen 2 shows live MO2 data

MoxyField was built using:
- Connect IQ SDK: 4.0.10, MO2 data shows in simulator
- Connect IQ SDK: 4.1.6, MO2 data does not show in simulator (Searching…)
- OS: Windows 10
- Editor: Visual Studio Code

MoxyField was built using the Connect IQ project located in the Connect IQ SDK samples folder. The compiled data field “MoxyField.prg” was sideloaded to the “Garmin/Apps” folder on the Vivoactive 3 watch.

Any suggestions on a data field patch to establish communication with the Moxy sensor when the Run activity starts (instead of navigating to a setup screen each time)?
