AOD for devices that do not require burn in protection

I am working on a few watch faces and started integrating Always On Display mode. For devices that require burn in protection I'm using a checkerboard pattern that shifts by a pixel every minute. This also darkens the screen quite a bit which is intended. I'm aware that this approach is a bit more memory intensive and will not work for all devices. My question pertains to watches that do not require burn in protection. Do I need to darken the screen in low power mode or only target the ones that require burn in protection? Do these watches (fenix, forerunner, epix, etc...) do that automatically to save battery life?

You don't have to do anything special on devices that have requiresBurnInProtection=false

Those with this true have restrictions such as no more than 10% of the pixels on, and for some, no pixel on…

Those with this true have restrictions such as no more than 10% of the pixels on, and for some, no pixel on for more than 3 minutes. That's the reason for the checkerboard - for these to restrictions. You can also just move things around to meet these two things without dimming the display.

MIP displays take the same batter if they are on or off, so there is no dimming.

On many of MIP devices, you can do "seconds all the time" though, so may want to consider that.
