interaction with activity tracking app / access to accelerometer

is it possible to write an app, with Connect IQ, which will update the data used by the native activiy tracking app of the vivoactive/920 xt/epix/... watches ?
let say I write my own cycling or running app, how to reflect the calories burned during workout with my own app into the native activity tracking app ?

is it possible to access the accelerometer data sensor, I only see the ant+ sensor but nothing on the accelerometer ?
  • imrespecfully disagree that steps won't b counted when in biking mode.
I see lots of ppl asking that on the fenix3 forum.

I however, did not explicitly test it out.. Tho.. (Hence I said - respectfully)

I don't believe the step counter is disabled in Biking mode, so if you hit some bumps, I wouldn't be surprised if you get some steps. I think putting the device on your ankle while biking usually gives you a step for each pedal revolution. In swimming mode, I assume they disable the step counting (but perhaps not) you would probably get a step for each stroke if they don't.
  • On the vivoactive (it's the only device I use), steps are counted during a cycling activity, with the VA on my wrist and no extra sensors. Not many, but they are counted. I think this is the normal behavior. I expect you'll get "steps" with swimming too, but I've never swam with a va.
