Edge 1040 widget loop access?

I understand that the Edge 1040 only supports datafields and device apps as the types of apps supported being that it is a CIQ4.x device.  On the CIQ4+ watches, adding a glance view to the super app allowed it to function as both a widget and an app.  It appears that the Edge 1040 still supports both glances and widgets per the manual, but my superapp only appears to show up in the CIQ apps list under the menu.

Enabling glance views on the superapp provides widget like functionality on the watches, but it appears it does not work the same on the Edge.  This seems like a big miss with the new Edge device.  Widgets are easily accessed through a swipe down then swipe right or left while recording an activity, but apps can only be launched by going to the home screen, opening the menu then selecting the CIQ list.  Not nearly as easy.

The question is how can I enable my app to be accessed from either the glances view or the widget loop on the Edge 1040?

  • With the latest firmware (version 14.20) glances do work on Edge 1040, but CIQ applications have to implement them.

  • I've yet to figure out how to even ADD a Widget to my 1040. I can see the Accuweather widget when I tap Connect IQ, but it does not appear when I tap the + sign in system--> widgets.

  • Technically the Edge 1040 as a CIQ 4.x device does not support widgets.  The options are apps or a "Super App" which contains a glance view.  On the CIQ 4.x watches, the super apps with the glance view behave just like a widget on the ciq 3.x and below devices.  The same is not true for the edge device so when a widget gets compiled for a CIQ 4.x device it gets converted to a device app and can only be loaded from the app menu or from a glance if the widget was configured for those.  It sounds as if the Accuweather widget has not added glance support.  To me this is a big miss in how CIQ 4.x was implemented on the edge devices.
