How long do I have to wait for a BETA app to appear in Connect IQ Store?

Am I doing something wrong?

As I'm forced by Garmin to upload my app to the store to be able to test the settings, this is what I do:

1. I export my app
2. upload MyApp.iq file to the store as BETA
3. give it a different version id than the previous one (BTW the same I also dump in manifest.xml)
4. hit publish
5. then write a few words in the "What's new" section
6. hit the Submit button

Am I being naive if I assume that a few seconds after I upload a BETA app, the newly uploaded version should appear in my Connect IQ Android app?
And I do see the text changes within seconds. But I'm waiting for hours to see (if at all?) the version to change.

Is there another/better/faster way to test settings? (nothing works in simulator...)

  • If you mark an app as beta in the store, it will never be available to anyone but you.  To publish for others, you need a different manifest ID.And it will never show in the CIQ Mobile app on a catagory page

  • I know that, I specifically wrote in the question: BETA, and that the goal is for me to be able to test settings (because Garmin forces me to do that, as I don't have any other - or seemingly maybe not even ANY - way to test settings)

    And it is already in my Connect IQ app with it's previous version...

  • You need to use the developer dashboard in the web based store to download a beta app.  You can't do it with the mobile app.

  • If you are waiting for the beta app to be updated on your device, Use Garmin Express, as with the mobile app, it could take a while.  You can also check out app settings with Garmin Express

  • In the developer dashboard I click: Download, then Confirm Device, then Allow, and then I see it's starting to install in Connect IQ Android. This is what I did all the time.

    But the problem is that then it "finishes" to install "it" and I still see the previous version is installed. What more, it also gets to an endless loop, because as soon as it finishes installing it it immediately displays that this app has an update. But clicking on the Update button does the same: installs the previous version of the app...

  • For a couple hours that can happen.  If you use Garmin Express, you should get it sooner.  When you updated the store, you probably saw a messages that said app update approval could take a couple hours.

    1. I bought the fenix 6 2 months ago and I was very (but now it seems not enough :( careful not to upgrade it's firmware to 20.50. Now this stupid Garmin Express forced me to upgrade. Or kind of. I feel like a convicted murdered hours before his execution... After I connected the watch to the Garmin Express I had to wait a few minutes and at the end I was given 2 choices: install 20.50 now or later tonight. Garmin, WHY ON EARTH am I forced to this? I really hope you did not ruin my watch (according to the fenix 6 forum it looks like I have more than 50% chance you did...)

    2. Of course nothing really works... I can open the App settings editor in Garmin Express, but it's soooooo much not user friendly! I can edit the settings, but I can't see the change... For that I need to change the settings while the watch is connected via the cable to the Mac (BTW I had to get a Mac for this GE adventure, because usually I work on Linux...), and then disconnect it to be able to see the datafield.... So much better in Garmin Connect Android (except that it doesn't show the latest app version's settings)

    Is there a way I can prevent the wath to do the FW upgrade (that is already uploaded to the watch unfortunately) later today????

  • Yes, I know that message, but Garmin! Please make some sense: why are you wasting your employee's and the developer's time on approving BETA apps? BETA apps should be automatically approved immediately! It can anyway only be used by the developer itself. FYI

  • We don't put beta apps through the approval process, so there should be no delay due to that. The apps may not appear immediately, however, because the binaries are put through a security scan which can take some time. I suspect this is the reason for the delay you're seeing.
