Android Notification and Connect IQ app

Hi, I have a question regarding notifications: I have Garmin smart watch and it has feature that it displays notifications from the phone to watch.

Some notifications don’t make any sense to be forwarded to watch.

I'm Android programmer and my question is: Is there any way how I can tell Connect IQ app that particular notification should not be forwarded to the watch? Like some flag, tag or something added into notification.

I found that such a flag exists but ConnectIQ app is most likely ignoring it

It would be GCM and not the Connect IQ App, and there is a forum for that: https://forums.garmin.com/apps-software/mobile-apps-web/f/garmin-connect-mobile-andriod

When you get a notification on a garmin, you can do things like dismiss it, but you can also block the app and you won't get notifications for that app any more.

Nope. Those notifications go from my app and I'm 100% sure they don't go via GCM.

Regarding blocking: it is quite tricky for my users.

It is not easy to catch the situation when notification is displayed (it is there for just a few seconds and then disappears - when downloaded data are short).

And also it is not real cure for ignoring standards. There is a standard on Android and Garmin ignores it.

In GCM, under settings, there is notifications, and you should be able to turn it off under "app notifcations".

I don't get it. By GCM do you mean Google Cloud Messaging?

Garmin Connect Mobile. It's the app that handles syncing, notifications to garmin devices, etc. The Connect IQ mobile app is only for managing/installing 3rd party apps on garmin devices.

In GCM, go to settings>notifications>App notifications. You see all the apps on your phone and can set if GCM does notifications for them.

Ok, got it. It is my fault I confused those two apps.

You are right app that is responsible for transferring notifications from Android to watch is Garmin Connect Mobile.

But it is still imperfect workaround.

App produces many types of notification.

Some of them are about background work progress (and those should not be sent to watch, especially when developer sets setLocalOnly flag to that notification) and some of them are important.

Unfortunately in GCM you can select all or nothing only.

I would think that best solution is (except adding support for Android Notification Channels) is to read setLocalOnly flag and drive GCM behaviour according that.

It could be android or GCM. Should GCM even see it for setLocalOnly?
