File System Layout

Hello guys,

I'm currently trying to figure out what are the meaning of the folder on my garmin Forerunner 45. I found here (https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq=AXV7LuWgc73v21nq6nbDa6) few folder descriptions but I'm trying to get a more complete one of all of them. I was wondering if there was an official documentation about that. You can find below the whole file system I'm trying to map.

ConnectIQ does not give developers access to the filesystem on the watch, so you won't find any details in this group either. Your best bet is to send a question directly to Garmin Support.

The Apps folder is the only ones that come into play with CIQ. but downloading a fit or gfx will put a file in other places.

Debugs sometimes comes into play if a CIQ app crashes the firmware (Yes, I've seen that) There is a ram file there.

RemotesW is used when there are updates to things like GPS and sensor hub. It's also where the GPS prediction files are located (epo.bin or cpe.bin ) They expire after a short and on most devices, you can see that status in about

Apps is really the only folder where you want to do anything yourself. Messing in other folders can cause issues.

Is there any indication that the OP is an IQ developer? (There's also no indication he's interested in "messing in other folders".)

if he's not doing CIQ, he should be asking in the fr45 forum and not here: https://forums.garmin.com/sports-fitness/running-multisport/f/forerunner-45-series

I doubt he'd get more information from there.

If he explained why he was interested, he might get more useful responses.

As it stands, it's a question without a purpose.

(I wrote a program that deals with some of the files in the file system and it doesn't seem like a useful question to me.)

Hi, thanks for your answers. I realized reading your messages than I maybe haven't been that clear. I'm doing kind of an extract and data handling tool for Garmin watches files. Since the file layout is kind of the same on Garmin watches I could post this question on any Garmin model forum.

I don't really need the meaning of every folder since I already got those necessary for my development. It's more out of curiosity because I shouldn't be the first one wondering that question. As suggested above, I sent a mail to the Garmin support directly but if you still have a clue, I'd be more than happy.

Something else to consider with what you are doing is the fr45 isn't a music device, so just looks like a normal drive with a pc or mac. The file system on music devices is different and with a mac, you can't even see it without something like this: https://www.android.com/filetransfer/
