A Little Help on Visual Studio Code Monkey C

Hi All,

I have a big curiosity about making my own watch face. I installed all necessary programs such as Visual Studio Code, SDKs, Java. I tried to run sample code, but terminal keeps giving this error:

I don't know if this is really error, but when I run the code (run without debugging), it is not giving any output.

Is there any big heart people on here, who can connect my PC with teamviewer and help me about this?

It will be really enlighten my way to being a developer :)

By the way, I'm a M.Sc. Engineer, I'm not far from programming, I'm working as an Automation Engineer right now. I'm just new on this platform.

Hi jim,

Thank you for the reply. I didn't get any update, this error pop up during first time installation of SDK Manager.

I assume that your installation of the SDK or SDK Manager is corrupt. You need a clean installation of the SDK without any error messages to proceed with the development of apps. The devices specs have not only be downloaded but also installed.

I recommend to try the installation anymore and follow exactly this description (step 1 to 6)

You've to start the SDK Manager from VSCode and NOT with a double click on sdkmanager.exe .

Hi Subra,

Yes I was installing sdkmanager.exe by double click. Now I uninstall and remove SDK files. But how should I start installation of it from VSCode? When I write "verify installation" it says that there is no SDK manager installed.

I tried one thing, I double click sdkmanager.exe and enter user id and password. And then I exit from sdk manager. Then I was able to run the code "Open SDK Manager" in VS Code. But then I took the same error message

As I've said start, not install. Installation of the SDK Manager is of course with double click on sdkmanager.exe.

OK, open the SDK Manager from VSCode. Select the Devices tab in the SDK Manager and for Watches/Wearables click the rightmost down arrow to download all specs.

From your stack trace it seems clear that the compilation crashes while parsing the compiler.json for the resolution of the device which is needed for the API and sim. For some reason the label "resolution" can't be found. As you've tested the compiler.json is available and the label "resolution" is also available. So the question is what is going wrong in your installation environment. I use exactly the same SDK release as you (connectiq-sdk-win-4.0.9-2022-01-24-2154651d3) and all works fine for venu2. This means that the parser works correct for me but crashes in your case with NullPointerException. This is only possible if your compiler.json isn't correct. Have you accidentially change something in this file?

No, it is not possible because I install SDK many times to try and I didn't open or change anything on that SDK folder.Which Java version are you using? I'm using Windows 10 by the way.

With win11 I'm using: (java -version from the command line)

openjdk version "17.0.2" 2022-01-18
OpenJDK Runtime Environment (build 17.0.2+8-86)
OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 17.0.2+8-86, mixed mode, sharing)

Have you tried uninstalling everything and starting over using the steps in https://developer.garmin.com/connect-iq/connect-iq-basics/getting-started/

Hi Jim,

I followed the link when I was installing everything. The problem I guess is, I shared a picture which shows some error during installation of SDK. That makes compiler error later I guess...

java version "1.8.0_321"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.8.0_321-b07)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 25.321-b07, mixed mode)

while 321 should work, you may find it really slow on windows. I was using 241 before openjdk.

Try removing everything and installing fresh. If something is messed up, just re-installing again might not help.
