Option to add different cover & hero image per device group

As we have more and more different types of devices, I was wondering if Garmin could provide a way to show different cover and hero images per device group. It would be good to have different cover images for Instinct devices, or different images for MIP screens vs OLED screens. This will be better for all users in the end as they see a better preview of what they can expect when downloading the product. Would really love to see this implemented. Fitbit provides a great way for doing this for example.

If the "great way" for doing this is the "great way" I am thinking of, I think I would rather not.

They have six devices covering three screen shape/size combos in one product group with a single screen technology... If I remember correctly, it is possible to cover all of them by uploading just three images.

Garmin has 98 devices covering nineteen screen shape/size combos in three product groups with three disparate screen technologies... Methinks it may be better and a higher priortiy to instead allow a larger number of screenshots and some formatting of the product description!

  • That's a big difference on Fitbit indeed. But then still it would be a very nice optional addition for Garmin. I think it would rather need to be a feature that you can upload a default image, and then upload additional once for some exceptions per device group. With divide group I mean: Venu, Venu SQ, Fenix, Forerunner, Instinct, Edge,... But indeed, more screenshots will help as well, but I don't think people always scroll through those before downloading something.

  • Not certain those groupings make sense.

For watch faces, I guess you might want to separate AMOLED (round) from Transflective (round) and Amoled (square) from... well there is only Venu SQ at the moment... and then semiround, rectangle are CIQ 1 & 2 which I guess you may not care about so much any more (although FR735 still seems to be selling...).

For widgets and apps... well, that includes Edge and hand-held so... you need everything.

And for DF... pretty much everything is a rectangle apart from the things that are not rectangles and are clipped and the things that are Instinct2's mini-circle.

I do agree that it would be nice to be able to do more in the way of making a product listing actually useful and enticing to people reading it, but...

  • And it's not just AMOLED and MIP, you got things like colors - the Edge130/130+ are B&W, as are the instinct2/2+.  While many folks use sim pictures in the store, I'm not sure what a good way to show AMOLED vs MIP there, as a color on a MIP device looks like the same color on an AMOLED display in the sim.

I have been adding screen shots of the Instinct2/2s when I port an app, as the sub screen can impact where things are, and to show how the subscreen is used, etc, as it's very different than how a "normal" round or square watch looks. but that's just changing one of 5 images other than the main one..

  • It is a pain only having five images, though...

  • Actually, I doubt lots of users even look at all 5.

  • I have documented cases where users don't read past the title and install button.  Somehow they still manage to find the contact developer button to ask a question that is right in the first few lines of the description.  Unamused
