The developer website says 256 colors for fenix 7 series.
Is that a typo or true?

Dam, was hoping it was true.
That would be strange typo thought. MIPS on Garmins needs to improve on colors a lot in order to not be pushed out by AMOLEDs.. But didn't see single comment that maps looks better on F7 than on F6.
Thats what I thought.
3 typos in a row?
Maybe 256 colors needs to be enabled in the firmware.
The number of colours is the number of intensities of each of the three primary colours, red, green, blue multiplied together, so has to be the cube of an integer, a “perfect cube”. 256 is not a perfect cube.
Thanks for the report. I've fixed this and it'll updated with the next update.
Actually, I haven't tried original Garmin maps but I use different topo maps. Wood area was kind of yellow in F5X and F6X and now they're green in F7X.
The f7 devices have a GPU (the f5, f5+, and f6 don't). I wonder if that's involved here.
High probably. Their 2D GPU can process up to VGA resolution, so 256 colours at 280x280 resolution should be very easy compared to old processors. Also they seem to have less RAM etc. but process everything faster than the old generation.
Less ram for an app, like a watch face, but they have the graphics pool.
