MapView and MapTrackView classes - map rendering question

Is there a way to control how the map is rendered by the MapView class?

Things like the maps to be displayed (in case there are several installed covering the same area), North up/Track up mode, Showing shaded terrain etc.

I have an app that uses the MapTrackView running on Edge1030 device and I find no way to control anything about the rendering of the map when displayed. There are different settings for the map for the different activity profiles - with different selected map sets, one is showing the terrain, another not etc.

However,  the map displayed in the MapTrackView in my app is different from any of the existing activity profiles and I'm unable to make any adjustments to it - it is always Track up (despite I'd like to put it in North up mode), it never shows the shaded terrain and it also doesn't show much color (it is mostly different shades of grey color that are used for background, roads etc. and small green dots  for the cities when zoomed out)

  • Not sure about edge devices, but on watches, the general setting for maps is used with CIQ.  There's no way for a CIQ App to see how things are set or to change things And the sim doesn't have any way to change things, and don't look quite the same as on real devices.

When using MapView/MapTrackView were first introduced a few years back I asked about changing this, but it never happened..

  • Hi Jim

thank you for your prompt reply.

I remember that when I was using an Oregon700, the MapView was influenced to a certain extent by the map parameters one selects in the device's system settings.

However on the Edge there's no place to put general settings for the map on device level. The map is set up only per activity profile.

    Best regards,

    Nick
