Which IDE to use? Design View in IDE?

Hello, I'm a total beginner in monkey c so please excuse my stupid question.
I want to get into the topic a bit and have installed Visual Studio Code and Eclipse.

I have some experience in Android Studio and Java programming.

With Eclips and Visual Studio I miss some kind of design view like I know from Android Studio where you can also program apps for wearables and the design view is really helpful there. 

Does this exist in the Monkey C universe or is it purely code based?

it's pure code based

the recommended dev environment is visual studio code

There's a hole bunch of documentation to get you started, and there's also a new developer FAQ: https://forums.garmin.com/developer/connect-iq/w/wiki/4/new-developer-faq

There are a bunch of samples in the SDK, and Peter also has a sticky at the top of this forum where the first post points to his site where he has links to a bunch of stuff.
