Controlling a VIRB Action Camera With an Edge Device based on Varia Radar sensor

Hi,

I'm looking to start / stop the recording in a VIRB 360 based on the Varia rear light Radar sensor.

For example, once the car is detected, the recording video is started and stop when the car is already pass (after a couple of second to record all the car activity).

The video will be use as reference in case the car are too close to the cyclist, for reporting purposes.

I didn't use the SDK before but I have time (and motivation) to start this project. Appreciated any feedback in order to start working on this.

It's this possible? Which classes/modules are suggested to use the VIRB and Radar in a Edge 1030 or other device? Which type application is suggested?

Apps designed for safety awareness purposes, such as incident detection or use with a Varia radar, may not be listed in the interest of customer safety.

I still need to develop the app before uploading for approval, which is the stage where I'm right now.

Any suggestion about the technical details to accomplish this app is appreciated as well.

With the virb, you'll likely need the ANT profile to talk to it, and probably native ANT and not ANT+. The profile might be available on thisisant. Here's the summary for the virb 360, but I didn't check for the ANT profile.

If you are using the ANT interface, you likely won't be able to have it paired natively.

Video Control (CTRL)

An ANT+ video recording and/or video playback device can be wirelessly controlled by an ANT+ remote control or phone application. The user can send commands from the remote to the video recording device to start recording, take photos, etc. A video playback device can also be wirelessly controlled to play, pause, stop, etc.

The video recording/playback device will report its state (recording, stopped, playing video, etc.) to the remote, its battery level and memory status. In addition, remotes can request the video device’s capabilities for consistent compatibility

That's what you can do. The profile is what tells you how to do it. Format of the payloads, etc.
