Hi, I would like to know if it is legal to replicate a watchface from another brand, of course totally free and without displaying the brand logo.
Thanks.

When you submit something, Garmin doesn't check if you have the trademark/copyright owner's permission, but if the trademark/copyright owner complains, Garmin will take action, which could include pulling the app from the store..
Hi Jim, thank you very much for your quick response.
Yes, I understand it, my question is a bit broader, I mean if copying a design, the arrangement of the elements and colors, the layout, without showing a brand and without profit, could give rise to a complaint.
The entire WF could have a copyright so copying it even without brand name could be an issue.
OK I understand. And if I change the position of the elements, for example instead of being on the right place it on the left? I have a feeling it's going to stay for my personal use .... lol
FWIW, there are lots of watches out there, both mechanical and quartz, that are almost exact copies of other watches and they are allowed to stay in business selling those watches for a profit. Given that, I wouldn't worry about creating a virtual version of one of those watches on the face of your Garmin device, I doubt that anybody is going to care about it from a legal perspective. Its not like you're creating a counterfeit product, its obviously not intended to be mistaken for the original design, I suspect that's what they care about the most in terms of legal actions.
There have been cases where things have been pulled from the app store due to copyright issues. You see any Mickey Mouse WFs for example?
I understand, thanks for your reply.
Yes, its true, no Mickey Mouse WFs.
fair enough Jim, but I wasn't thinking along the lines of a copyrighted character image on a watch face, so I missed that angle completely.
I was thinking about watches like Rolex, Omega, etc. which probably aren't specifically copyrighted for their appearance, but I could be wrong. There are other companies making watches that look very similar to the Rolex Submariner, and they've been in business for years selling them. Here's one on Amazon, compare it to the Rolex, not much difference.
