Edge 1000 configurable app settings

Hi,

I can't seem to save app configuration settings on the Edge 1000. I am able to change them in Garmin Express but they are not stored on the device. This is the case for any of the 'configurable' apps tried so far (Dashboard, Visual Speed Alarm, Heart Rate and Time in Zone etc).
  • Have you tested this recently to see if you are still having the same issues?

I've tested using the original test case and instructions I provided, and I was not reproduce the problem on my first attempt. If I tweak the process just a little bit, I can reproduce the problem again.

I've been communicating with the ConnectIQ team, and it seems to be something related to the file name of the settings files. In my original tests the program file name was mixed case (XXX.prg) and the settings file was all uppercase (XXX.SET). This didn't work. If I change the settings file name to xxx.SET it seems to work.

    Check the drop down

After selecting "on the device" from the drop down menu I could update settings on the device.

Yes, I tested this with one of the other members on the team and we were seeing the same thing. Thank you for retesting this.

Hi all, if it works properly:

Once downloaded the app, look with the browser that is in the "Apps", the file is "CE477726.PRG"

Now we go to Garmin edge, and create a new profile such data, not touching the standards profiles (Train, Race ...)

We create and activate for example, only the "screen 1" with just one data field.

Once created, go to this new profile, and on the screen that we have activated with a single field press 2 seconds and a will open a new display, and select "Dashboard" Connect IQ, with this as we get the screen of the app .
  • Hello,

can anyone check this error with a Edge 520?
I got comments from users that settings are not synced/stored on the Edge 520 and Edge 1000 (there only the defaults are used in the app). But I don't have such devices to test it.

    Hello,

I get a lot of complaints from user of my data-fields Gears and Gear Ratio to about settings not persisting. The data-fields them selves get low ratings and negative comments because of this which is a shame. Garmin, what is your estimated time to fix this bug?

I have an Edge 520 and having the same problem (edit settings for Connect IQ aps, then sync the device. After unplugging the Edge the settings have reverted to the defaults). I've tried using Garmin Express on Windows 7 and Windows 10.

In addition, the Android Garmin Connect Mobile App throws an error message when I try to edit the settings using the app.
  • Yep - I can confirm the same issue on the Edge 1000.

Changing settings via Mac (USB and Garmin Express v 4.1.18.0)
    - I click on 'Manage Apps'.
    - I can see the apps on my Edge 1000, but there is not the 'three dot' button to allow you to change the settings.

Changing settings via Bluetooth (Garmin Connect on iPhone 6S)
    - Select "Garmin Devices'
    - Select Edge 1000
    - Select 'Connect IQ Apps'
    - Select 'Data Fields'
    - Select one of the apps with configurable fields.
    - Select 'Settings'
    - Nothing for about 30secs and then a message saying 'There was an error retrieving the settings from your device. Try again?'

So as it stands I can get the data fields onto the Edge 1000, but cannot configure any of them.
  • I don't know if this will help or not but it's an observation.

Using Garmin Express to change Data Field settings on the Edge 1000 has worked for me in the past. Today, however, it would not work. I had sideloaded data fields for debug so I deleted those and removed the installed data fields using Express. I reinstalled the data field I wanted, but I still could not get settings to persist from Express.

Then I manually deleted all App files, Settings files, and OUT.BIN and IN.BIN, reinstalled the data field, and after that, the settings persisted when they were changed in Express. I have not replicated this so I don't know if this is just a coincidence or not.
  • @MoxyRoger Thanks for the feedback on this--that sounds like a pretty important clue. :)
