Edge 1000 configurable app settings

I filed a bug on this a while back. I found that if you copy a known good settings file to the device (this is how Garmin Express modifies the device settings) it is overwritten by the device when the data field is started.

OK, thanks Travis. Seems like it might be an easy one for the Garmin folk to fix!

Garmin has received reports of the data field settings not being sent/saved on the device properly. We are actively investigating to determine the root cause so that this issue can be resolved.

Garmin aware in Janaury but iin March

I see above that Garmin chimes in back in JAnuary 2016 that they are aware apps don't work and are investigating....but yet in March My device does a firmware update to accommodation this crap (Im sorry but the few apps I tried are currently crap and dont work) and in the process of that update lost all my settings and specialized maps (Topo etc). I also got an email from Garmin telling me try these apps. I accepted the aggravation of having to redo everything from my age to data screens and embraced the apps. What I found was I wasted my time. Nope, they dont save settings to the device.....GEE Im not a computer programmer but if I were I might test my product first...I know - we could call it a Beta.... Im seeing Garmin Apps going the way of Microsoft's Gadgets (remember them?).....everyone thought thy were cool and turns out they were bad news. I read somewhere a post that said this "Call me back when apps actually work". I concur.

Heart Rate App on Edge 1000?

I installed the Heart Rate App on my Edge 1000 using Garmin Express. How can now activate it? I do not see that APP on my Edge. What do I have to do?

I changed the target speed in the app 'Visual Speed Alarm Settings' to 25.

Clicked Save.

(I have also tried doing a sync at this point)

Unplugged USB lead.

When started the app displayed '30kph Speed' on the Edge 1000 screen.

The 'Target Speed' setting in Garmin Express reverted to 30.

I did notice that the file Garmin>Apps>Settings>527C.SET seems to get modified when the Garmin unit is restarted.

What version of Express are you running currently?

To manually check for a Garmin Express update:

Windows:

Open Garmin Express
Click the Gear icon in the upper right
Click About
Click Check for updates to Express
Click Install Now if prompted
Mac:

Open Garmin Express
Click Garmin Express in the Apple menu bar
Click About Garmin Express
Click Check for Application Updates
Click Install Now if prompted

I was running version 4.1.16.0, today updated to version 4.1.17.0 (there was no notification that this update was available other than in the 'About' section). This has not fixed the problem though.

I was finally able to reproduce the issue with the settings not being updated on the device when changing them in the app settings on GE. To get a little more clarification on this, are you changing the settings on the initial install of the app before you disconnect form the computer?
Here are the steps (these are the ones you sent me) that I performed to reproduce the issue:
(Using Garmin Express)
Download the Visual Speed Alarm app
Before unplugging, I changed the target speed in the app 'Visual Speed Alarm Settings' to 25.
Clicked Save.
Unplugged USB lead.
When started the app displayed '30mph Speed' on the Edge 1000 screen.

After this I plugged watch back in and changed the settings to 25 again and this time the value changed on the app.

This was not the case, I could repeatedly attempt to changes the settings but they would not be stored. I have solved the problem though by deleting the apps folder on the Edge, now with the new recreated apps folder the settings for all apps are being stored and retained on the unit. Unfortunately this doesn't help you find out exactly what the conflict was.

Not able to modify settings

I was able to change the setting on my Edge 1000 today. What is the FW you are running? I currently have FW 7.0 on my device.

I upgraded the Edge 1000 to the latest software. Still, Made changes to settings of my IQ app in Garmin Express (three dots by the app logo) but do not reflect on the device. Garmin connect illustrates that it saved the change. Please advice. Thanks
