Why has watch face disappeared from Trending Apps?

I made and posted the "Coros Apex Like" watch face app on the Garmin Store.

This app has many downloads and real reviews.
I posted an update this morning on 08/23/2021. People continue to download and write reviews, but this application has disappeared from "Trending Apps" and other sections - it did not go beyond the visibility, but disappeared altogether!
Why did this happen? Was there "Auto Migration" today?

  • You can tell if something has been auto migrated by the little gear icon next to the version in the store.  Looks like this app was done on Aug 19th:

if you hover over the gear it says "Auto migrated"

You'll often see something like this in the stats when you update or there is an auto  migration.  The spikes are mainly from people installing the update and not doing a new install.  But the spikes are taken into account in various rankings and it's for "the latest version".

  • But my app doesn't have "the little gear icon"

My app was the second in the rating and suddenly disappeared completely, did not move to a lower place, but disappeared altogether. However, in the last day (sun 22.08) it had over a thousand downloads and 14 reviews.

  • Sounds like you may have manually updated your app after the auto migration, And while those that were auto migrated were starting to sort themselves out, you're did another update.

1000 new downloads in a day really isn't that much (I have a few that get 2k pretty much every day), and when it comes to trending, consider that there are thousands of apps competing for the top spots.  The first group in trending changes multiple times a day.

  • Perhaps you are right about the number of downloads, and some applications got ahead of me. But not all of them are without exception! I would understand if I moved from second place to the third ten or even further. But my app is missing from "Trending Apps" at all.

  • So are my apps that get 2k+ downloads a day.  In fact, I can't recall any of them ever showing up in trending, regardless of the number of new reviews.

  • One of my most popular apps is still at the end of Trending Apps with one recent review - VerticalMeteo, and at its peak, Coros Apex Like, with over a thousand downloads and over a dozen reviews a day, is gone! There is something wrong with the rating system and this is what I am reporting!

  • Understand that when you click "more" for Trending, it only will show you the top 5 pages - a few hundred apps.

But there are thousands of apps that have some position in trending.  If you don't see your app, it just means it's not in the top few hundred.  But give it a few days and it might move up into that group.

  • Jim, I don't get this "auto migration" option impact on popularity. Is there some relation when this option is enabled or disabled?

  • Ok, with "auto migration" turned on, if a new device is released which is "like" a device you already support your app is automsticly supported for that new device.  But it will be unavailable of you update your app without the new device for your app.

It's used as a way to get apps in the store as soon as new devices are announced.

This only impacts popularity if a whole bunch of users with the new and compatible device immediately download your app

I have it turned off for some things where I want to make the call myself (semirounds were interesting!) after testing, but for most of my apps, I allow it

  • Do you know/remember an example device that received an already existing app this way? I have it checked for all my apps and occasionally when new devices were announced I checked and I never saw the new device there. It's maybe that in the recent years new devices always had some difference in hardware? Not sure.
