Data Field Activity Start/Stop/Save Detection

Hey there,

I've been looking through the docs and it would seem that a data field I create can not detect start/stop/save activity events without me also creating an activity recording session, is that true? Ideally, I'd like to collect some metrics, save that to the local device storage, and then send that off to a web API - but only after an activity has been saved. Can someone point me in the right direction?

In a data field, the session is created by the underlying activity, and with the onTimer* call backs you can see when things happen.

To do comm (like a makeWebRequest) to send off the data, that needs to be done in a background service in a data field.

So this works really well so far! There doesn't seem to be a discard call back. Is detecting whether a .fit file has been created or some other metric a way of handling a discard? The data I want to post can only happen if an activity is saved.
