How to stop GARMIN Watch from wanting to update to a new version of OS?

FW can be updated with wifi, Garmin Express, or over BT.  If you close GE on your pc/mac, you won't get updates that way  No need to remove the devices from GE. 

New firmware will also get pushed from your phone with Garmin Connect Mobile, but it can take much longer than Wifi or GE. (a day or so)

The watch is saying that it wants to update to the 7.2 version of OS.  WiFi is off.   I do not want this message to show up on the watch.  How do I stop it?

Connect the device to a pc/mac (no Garmin Express needed) and in the garmin folder, there'll be a file called gupdate.gcd.  Delete that.

The thing is you'll probably keep getting the file over blue tooth if that's on.

Bluetooth is on because my app connects to a device via bluetooth.  So there is no way to stop the watch from wanting to update the OS.

Is the watch connected to a phone with Garmin Connect Mobile running?  That's how the new FW gets sent to the watch.

On some devices (not sure about the 945) the FW gets installed "tonight" with no interaction.  Garmin wants devices to be running the latest FW.

The watch is not connected to a phone so that is why I am confused as to where this message is coming from.  I understand that GARMIN wants to keep the watches in sync, but this is a unique situation where I do not want anything to change on the watch.
