Another great Garmin User Experience Story (upload new app version)

So today I uploaded an update for my watch face Alfa-Zulu, v2.4.2.
No problem here, apps.garmin.com says version is 2.4.2, updated today.

So I opened Connect mobile on my iPhone and started to update Alfa-Zulu on my watch (it said update available)
After update finished I went into settings of watchface for testing...

...and found that the settings DO NOT reflect the update, settings of the update are missing.
I thought maybe an error, and restarted Connect mobile, but the watchface is updated and no update available.

Well... I opened the other app ConnectIQ on my mobile and it said 1 Update available.
So I went into the Updates screen where the update for Alfa-Zulu is listed, BUT it is listed as version 2.3.0, which is the previous version.
Hitting "Update All" starts an update and it ends after some time, BUT it does not update anything. The main screen still says 1 Update available.

Ok,ok... I opened Express on my PC and plugged my watch. Synced and searched for updates... NO UPDATES here. Settings in Express reflect the old 2.3.0 version.

Awesome, I love you Garmin!

What to do now?

Is this a problem on my side/my watch?

Do I have to uninstall Alfa-Zulu from my watch and reinstall loosing all settings?

Or is this a problem on Garmins servers?

Should I try uploading same 2.4.2 version with a new 2.4.3 number?

    Yes, this is a reason of this behaviour. As far as I see it. I also met this problem. As I see it, Garmin Connect App and Garmin Connect IQ App use different servers. And Garmin Connect app sees the update right after pulling it to Garmin but Garmin Connect IQ app sees it only in a few hours later. 

    Please, wait a couple of hours and try to update the watchface via Garmin Connect IQ app on your phone. There shouldn't be any problem

  • When you update apps there is a message that says it may take a couple hours for "app update approval"

  • Yeah, I know, but this does not change the fact that the application becomes available for updating immediately if you try to update it through the Garmin Connect app (not Connect IQ one). 

    And this problem was actual for some months, even before Garmin introduced this message

  • I understand that there might be sync problems when both apps use different servers,

    but my real problem is, that Connect mobile updated (to 2.4.2? I don't know) and the settings of the updated watch face in Connect do not reflect the update. The settings page look same as before update, which it should not, because I added new settings.

    This does not make sense. Or it is a bug that happens when updating in Connect mobile.

  • The one more thing I have noticed is that the Connect IQ app while it's not seeing the update (a few hours after pulling it to Garmin) it thinks that the new version (updated from Garmin Connect app) is actually an older one. 

    So, if you have turned on auto-update option on Connect IQ app, it reupdate the app down to older version (that's why you can't see new settings, I guess)

  • And the next fun thing is, that ConnectIQ shows "1 Update available", and it says version 2.3.0 as update, which is the version that is already installed.

    A mess.
