Configure settings/datafields of Garmin built in applications from GCM/GE?

Hi,

Maybe this question was asked thousands of times (couldn't find with quicksearch).

Configure settings/datafields of Garmin built in applications from GCM/GE?
We need to factory reset out watches (Fenix 3 is buggy and problem solving usually ends with factory reset).

And after factory reset setting up data fields for each app - is really annoying.

Any ideas if it's possible or be possible in the near future?

Thanks!

    You are able to backup settings of the device - look to this knowledge base page https://support.garmin.com/support/searchSupport/case.faces?caseId={783045f0-96a4-11e4-6479-000000000000}

It doesn't say anything about app configuration or datafields.
It just says that SPORTS contain apps.

SPORTS – contains each activity app as a separate file

So does fit files in SPORTS folder contain app setttings or not?
  • The SPORTS folder contains stuff for the built-in apps (Run, Swim, ...). If you want to backup ConnectIQ stuff, make a copy of the APPS folder.
  • Additionally, you wouldn't restore them by copying to the NEWFILES folder. You'd want to put the APPS folder back where it was.

  • Thanks Travis, but this doesn't answer my question.

And the question was: does *.fit files in SPORTS folder contain built-in app settings (including data field settings) or not?
  • I'm sorry, I assumed that since you were posting in the ConnectIQ forum area you were asking about ConnectIQ data fields being used in the built-in Garmin apps (Swim, Bike, Run, ...). If you were, then I stand by my original answer.

If not, I'm fairly certain that the files in the SPORTS folder contain the settings for each of the built-in activity apps. It should be fairly easy to tell by doing 10 minutes of testing.

    • Connect your Garmin device to your computer via USB
    • Make a backup of the SPORTS folder to your computer
    • Disconnect your Garmin device to your computer
    • Change the configuration of one of the built-in applications (auto pause, data field layout, ...)
    • Verify the settings have taken hold
    • Connect your Garmin device to your computer via USB
    • Restore the backup of the SPORTS folder from your computer
    • Verify the settings have been restored

  • Thanks for the tip!!!!

I did the test. Everything's OK. Settings are saved in *.fit file.

    Problem solved.
But still it would be nice to make settings in the GCM app and not click watch buttons thousands of times :D I hope Garmin will implement that someday.
