Anybody else experiencing some weird out of sync settings with app after pushing an update to Apps or Faces?

I noticed that after pushing an update, users which are using Garmin's connect iq app to update will end up with the previous version of the app but with the new settings.  This will create a bunch of not working issues.

Every new users that will download the watch face during that period will also experience this.  Same with folks using auto update.

Seems that the only way to get the proper version with settings during that period is to download from the web but use Garmin's connect app to sync to install it.  But then opening Connect iq app will revert to the previous app version and keep the new settings again.

This weird "out of sync" period seems to last for a few hours.  But users that are in the corrupted state won't be able to get the proper update again.  Can only uninstall and reinstall later.

Is Garmin already aware of this?

  • I recently desided to update the settings inside on of my watchfaces as well and faced the same issues - people were able to download the new watchface and the watchface tried to work with the old settings...

After a few hours this problem was gone...

Don't know if this problem was solved automatically for some users - most did tell me that they did reinstall the watchface...

After approx. 2 days I did not get any mails regarding this issue anymore...

  • Did you notice the message when you updated the store that it could take up to two days for a version update to be approved?

    forums.garmin.com/.../are-new-updates-for-existing-apps-df-etc-now-needs-approval

  • the problem is that the WF will be available for person X but when person X runs the watchface, settings will be missing. If the store makes the WF available for person X it must make EVERYTHING available for this person.

I've seen this on my watchface after my WFs release, I could download and install it and settings have been missing and I could not change any setting because the settings did use the old setting ids only... (I saw the old settings UI and so the old setting IDs have been changed by the settings - the WF was expecting and reading the new IDs only)...

Something like this should not happen at all. Either the new WF is available or not, but this should not happen

  • I believe that' s a different topic.  The face is already approved.  Just pushing a new version

  • No, there's a new approval when you do an update - the message says "up to 2 hours"

For a while, when you did an update, it could take a few minutes before things like the new version number would show.

See the link I posted earlier.

  • Seems to be missing my point again.  I have you read the original post reporting the weird issues users are experiencing?  The app is actually available to users and the apps and webpage are displaying the newest version BUT the server is installing the previous version on the user's devices with new settings.  Maybe something is lost with my wording.

  • it sounds like their is a bug in how this new version approval is working.

  • Yes, same problem. Everything is good when you update with garmin connect app, but with garmin connect iq, it might overwrite with old version or does not exist. This is a pain sometimes to explain to customers downloading. Usually few hours helps - and moreover if I updated the watch with garmin connect app, and have automatic updates on with connect iq - once I open connect iq, it will overwrite the new version with the old one, and there we are again. I notice the error, but for the customer it could be hard to understand. That’s why I always have auto update set to false.

  • That's exactly what I'm experiencing...  You are way better at explaining it Slight smile

  • Yeah, I have a ticket out for this. IQ store will push new settings but never update the app. Instruct your users to update via Garmin Connect, not via IQ store
