One last try: How many ConnectIQ data fields can a Montana 7 series run concurrently?

Hi,

I've given up on finding out the other information that I still need to progress, but can I please get an answer to this one:

How many ConnectIQ data fields can a Montana 7 series run concurrently?

EG: How many DataField apps that have been downloaded from the store - not Garmin built DataField, but ones developed using the SDK.

I am aware (now) that for 735xt the limit is 3, for Fenix 6x Sapphire, the limit is 2 and I am lead to believe that the limit is 2 for "most" other devices, except for Edge... that remain a grey area where I haven't had any answers offered.

However, specifically for the Montana 7 which remains the one device where I see errors but where I see them in batches of three when they occur [eg: I have an ERA report at same date, for same device Montana 7, for three related DataField again...], please can I get a confirmation from somebody - anybody - as to how many DataField apps can run on a single activity on a single Montana 7 device.

The montana7xx supports 10 ConnectIQ data fields in use with a single activity profile.

Just to be clear of our definitions, because that’s five times as many as a Fenix 6 pro, you do mean _ConnectIQ_ sdk fields, not just data fields? As in ones written by people like me, not Garmin?

Other devices also handle 10 CIQ Dfs, like maybe the Oregon, Rino, etc. The Edge 1030 too if I recall.

Not that it's super relevant, but I think you'll find that device limits on "just data fields" are actually a limit on # of data *pages*. e.g. The 230 supports 2 data pages, and the 935 supports something like 12. The page limits are unaffected by how many data fields you use per page. For example, if I use a full-screen CIQ data field on page #1 of a 230, then I still only have 1 additional data page to use in the activity.

(Here I'm just referring to standard data pages which support regular data fields, not "special" data pages like HR, Clock, Compass, etc.)

Also, if your app is really crashing due to too many simultaneous (Connect IQ) data fields in the same activity, I would say that's a bug no matter how you slice it.

Specifically it crashes on a “create fit field” line - I have clearly crossed some invisible and undocumented max that only applies on devices where you can run more than three fields at the same time.

Three together runs fine on my 735xt, two together runs fine on my Fenix 6x Sapphire. On Montana, I see three simultaneous ERA reports for three separate fields run at the same time.

I _could_ programmatically limit fields on those devices _if_ what those devices were was documented anywhere.

I have definitely heard anecdotal reports about issues with too many simultaneous *FIT* fields on the same activity (across several CIQ data fields). I've also heard reports of a data field of my own suddenly not working when another data field is installed, which could be related.

I would still call that a Garmin bug, as I would expect that createField() to fail gracefully and not crash, if certain resources are unavailable.

I don't think any limit is documented, but if there is a limit, this can also become a problem if there are multiple fields currently active writing fit developer fields.

for me the limit is 16 custom FIT fields.

The e530/830 also allow 10 CIQ DFs.
