Old Firmware in Asia

Hello guys and Garmin,

A lot of users report that my watch face is not working for them, and it turns out that they are sitting on v.5.20 firmware. I've heard that localized versions of the watch get delayed updates. 5.20 seems to be pretty old.
Garmin, what are the plans for China and other regions with old software?
Other developers, what IQ version do you support and do you test your apps on older versions too?

Thanks.

Hey guys, any news on that? Thanks!

v.5.20 uses CIQ v.1.2.1 which is almost 4 month old. Moreover, I can't build the watch for 1.2.1 and support Fenix 3 HR. This is kinda ridiculous.
  • it's a catch 22 I guess.

New watch with old CIQ SW
new features only on new CIQ SW

it's always been the - support the app using the lowest possible SDK denominator and forgo the new features.

I've basically been doing that. F3HR - I don't support that largely due to volume penetration. The day when F3HR starts selling and shipping in large volumes would mean it would have quite up to date CIQ SW/FW already.

Till that happens - I don't really fancy being in the boat of "your sw does not work on my F3HR! Fix it you $^%#&* developer" and then a 1 star rating.

I rather not have this grief. (for each their own)

note: sometimes garmin will just "upgrade" your App to support the F3HR. that's all fine and dandy till I re-upload a newer version and overwrite the support for that watch cos I'm still using an older SDK.

    :-p
