HR strap not connecting on CIQ apps

Hello guys,

a lot of my users are complaining that the HR strap is not connecting when they start my app.
This started with Fenix firmare 6.8.

Here is a portion of an email I received:

My question:
When your HRM is connected and showing data in one of the default garmin apps, if you switch imediatly to my app it does not show the HR info?
The response
Exactly this. I did see a post somewhere suggesting that it's actually a recent problem with the Connect IQ implementation in the F3 firmware, that it doesn't reliably pick up HR in non-native apps at the moment (can't find it though, garmin forum search being what it is). So I'll try downloading another app and see if that has the same problem. I updated to 6.80 which has 1.2.2 and it didn't help.

I believe the same problem should be affecting other non native apps? I also couldn't find the original post.

Someone else receiving the same complaints?
There is any workaround?

Cheers,

Robinson
  • I want to start by saying I understand your frustration and it was most likely one of the multiple posts I made in the Fenix3 beta threads and modified app description. This problem has been present in the beta releases and now 6.80 since at least version 6.6X. That being said there is nothing on your end you can do to correct the issue at this time. The only known workaround at this point is to power-off the watch and power-on again. This will allow the application to be run (yours or someone elses) one time. Once a CIQ application uses a sensor or ANT+ it will not work again on any subsequent runs until power cycled again. Sorry!!! I would suggest you mail Garmin support and the Fenix3 beta mail alias to make sure they know you are also having an issue. I have already done both of those but it might have been lost in the noise with all the other issues they have been encountering.
  • As one of robinsonmilani's users, I've found that Connect IQ apps don't pick up the HR even immediately after rebooting, and I see this issue with other apps than his (this one, for example), so it looks like an issue with the watch firmware.
  • I agree that it isn't an app issue. It's not entirely clear whether this is a firmware-specific issue or if it's something Connect IQ is responsible for (it seems to me like it's more likely to be firmware), but we're looking into it.
  • Ok, thanks to all of you for the feedback.

    Heart rate monitor

Has anyone updated to 6.9 and does it cure the heart rate monitor problem.
  • Hi brian.

I'm not using my Fenix recently.
But I will update the firmware today and tomorrow will use it in my workouts.

I will let you know the results.

    Hi Robinson

Did you have a chance to try your Fenix 3.
  • Hey, sorry for letting you wait. But my personal life is crazy recently.

My wife is pregnant and she HAS top priority. :-D
