HR forwarding via ANT+ is no longer working for Apps

Hi,

on may devices (like VA3/4 or FRx45) it is possible, to forward HR via ANT+. In Settings of HR widget it is possible to activate "send during activity" to on. By now device is sending HR in Apps and Activity. Since latest FW updates (e.g. FR645 V7.0) this is no longer working for Apps (only for activity).

I switched back to previous FW, it is working, back to 7.0 deactivated again.

Anyone any idea, how to activate HR forwarding via ANT+ in apps? Have some user feedback from users.

Try asking in the 645 forum, as it sounds like a FW change/bug is involved.

First user I had complaining was a VA3 user. I thought it's specific to VA3, but no, meanwhile same on FR645, VA4, ...

So seems to be, Garmin specifically deactived to all devices. I thougth there should be another way with 3.2 via toybox (e.g. ANT+) Garmin wants us to use. But by now I did not find a way ...

Seems to be, you already appreciated some years ago, as Garmin introduced the feature for non native apps

And now Garmin deactived ... but theoretically it should be possible to broadcast HR via toybox.ant ... but I need some support / ideas out of the community. I implemented tools to receive FE data, but never tried to reimplement broadcasting ... would do and publish to community.

Seems to be not possible, implemented a 1st draft, but "Master channels on the ANT+ network are not allowed." ... seems to be, Garmin is also blocking this way.

You also can't access a device with regular Ant if it's already paired/connected by way of the firmware.

I did it, it's possible. Demonstrator is working. Key points are:
Channel Type = CHANNEL_TYPE_SHARED_BIDIRECTIONAL_TRANSMIT
messagePeriod = 8070
deviceType = 0x78
transmissionType = 0x01
deviceNumber != 0 (you are free)
Broadcast to be sent via .sendBroadcast
To be sent 4 times per second
payload = [1x per second: 0x80 3x per second: 0x00, 0xff, 0xff, 0xff, 0x00, 0x00, count (%256), hr]

Proven with FR645 + Edge 830 ... but should work on other devices.

Best use MoxyField sample as basis. Here are the keys:

Channel assignment:

chanAssign = new Ant.ChannelAssignment(

Payload for message broadcast:

payload = [count%4==0?0x80:0x00, 0xff, 0xff, 0xff, 0x00, 0x00, count%256, hr]

Message should be sent every 250ms (via quite normal CIQ timer).

To be fully compliant to Ant+ doc some more messages are to be sent, but as PoC it was sufficiant to me - it's working.
