Why exist so much weather conditions although only a few are used?

Hi  I did a cumbersome work and assigned a lot of weather conditions given by the class Weather to certain icons. Saying this, I observed for a week or so only very few icons on my real watch  . E. g. It shows partly cloudy all the time regardless it is partly cloudy or partly sunny. In fact I haven't ever seen partly sunny on my watch. Therefore I am wondering whether those conditions are used by the Garmin forecast  ?

  • The info you can see in Weather is really nothing new to the watch, it's just now available in CIQ new.  Before, you could only see it in things like the Garmin weather widget..  Using a few weeks at a single location, there are a bunch of conditions you may not see, but could be seen by others at different times and in different places.  Where I live, I wouldn't expect CONDITION_SNOW more than once or twice every decade or two, but for others, it's common.  CONDITION_SANDSTORM on the other hand...

To simplify things, maybe show the same thing for partly cloudy and partly sunny, etc, so you can display all 50+ conditions with far fewer than 50 icons.

  • Hi Jim,

hm, I can't agree exactly. Let me give another example:

I only see Condition Rain as forecast on the real watch but there are other conditions as well:

    CONDITION_SCATTERED_SHOWERS

    CONDITION_LIGHT_RAIN

    CONDITION_HEAVY_RAIN

    CONDITION_LIGHT_SHOWERS

    CONDITION_SHOWERS

    CONDITION_HEAVY_SHOWERS

    CONDITION_CHANCE_OF_SHOWERS

Why do we need all of them if they are not been foreasted? As I said, I only get CONDITION_RAIN

  • Consider CurrentCondition, not just forecast.  There can be more accurate info for "right now" than an hour from now.

Also, the specifics can vary based on the reporting station in your area,  Some may provide more detailed info than others.

In the case of your list, you can treat them all the same, but others may want the detail..
