Why support some devices like FR935 no Weather

Hi, I got an error during compile if I try to use Toybox.Weather on a e. g. FR935.

The API says nothing about supported devices :-( Anyway, if I have a look to the App store I find some weather widgets which are able to support those devices. Am I doing something wrong here?

It does say by reference.

"Since 3.2.0"

The 935 is still 3.1 (I'm not sure that will change)

What you can do is check at runtime with something like

hasWeather=(Toybox has :Weather)

and then check hasWeather before you try to reference Weather

With the API doc in the SDK, it does have "Supported Devices" for the Weather module,

Apps that display weather info on devices like the 935 do so by doing a makeWebRequest to something like Open Weather Maps. I have weather widgets that run on CIQ 1 devices for example.

OK, thanks for clearing things up.

Asking for the weather instance doesn't make sense in my case since it is a weather widget....

We updated the docs after the developer summit to display data about devices that support API features. You can see the additional information in the API docs online here..

If you don't see the View devices link under Supported Devices, you may need to force refresh the page (CTRL+F5 in chrome).

There is one little hitch here though. You have to consider both the Since and Supported Devices information to get a sense of whether a feature is supported on a given device. As an example, the Weather module requires ConnectIQ 3.2 support. The vivoactive3mlte device is currently listed supported, but I believe the latest firmware version only supports ConnectIQ 3.1.6. So this device is not *currently* supported.

We are making some process changes internally that should help to avoid situations where devices are reported as having feature support, but the firmware is not yet available to enable it. Hopefully this will help to minimize confusion that might arise.

I saw one of my user is using weather widget on his watch but it seems no weather module for developer on it.

I have weather widgets that run on about every device, but they don't use Toybox.Weather. They do a makeWebRequest to a weather provider.

OH, garmin didn't encapsule its weather api that time maybe hahaha

For where I live, Garmin Weather isn't as accurate as Open Weather Maps, which is less accurate that Weather Underground, With WU, I can get the weather as close as my own back yard.
