RequiresBurninProtection simulator and apps.

Hi,

I started a new thread for this as although it was triggered by Jim's post on Venu Square, I think it has a more general application:

Ok, ,so I have implemented burn in protection and always on display for my Venu Watch faces, but there is a lot more than watch faces in the Garmin universe!

What happens to apps, data fields and widgets with the burn in protection?

There is no way (that I know of) to simulate or test burn in protection for an app / widget / data field and yet I am pretty certain that the screen technology and limitations are the same!

1. Am I supposed to be responding to "requiresBurninProtection" for Data Field and app?

2. If so, how can I test that without owning the device?

It's like the venu where you only worry about it with watch faces if you want them to allow for "always on" That's why you only see things like the heat map for watch faces.

That makes sense, I guess. And however much the absence of an always on display would 100% block me from buying a Venu to actually use for exercise, I can see that the 10% pixel rule for a screen with up to 4 different DF would be unworkable...

But for apps, does that mean there is no way to support always on for apps?

If I recall, the venu has a setting for what to do when using an activity - a timeout or "always on", where always on doesn't have the same restrictions that a watch face does. If you've not heard any complains app how your non watch apps run on a venu, you won't hear it with the sq either.

Hmm. Perhaps.

It's just that the app I have in mind has > 90% pixels always on for 100% of the time!

The limitations for watch faces are in place because they are typically shown for 20+ hours a day. Leaving the display on for long periods of time will use a ton of battery and quite possibly have lasting impacts on the display.

I guess I was getting paranoid based on the strictures in the always on display in the simulator!
