Blurry fonts?

Hi all,

I'm a newbie to Monkey-C and the Connect IQ platform and i've got a question regarding custom fonts.

Whats the best approach to get fonts look smooth?

I'm just testing out some stuff and i find that after generating bitmap fonts from a ttf font and adding it (Either with Layout or DC) its bad quality, rough edges and pixels sticking out everywhere (nothing like they look in the generated .png)

I've seen some apps out on the Garmin Store and some of them have very "crisp" fonts with smooth edges and I wonder how they do it :)

When you add the font's to the xml file, you can spefify antialising:

But some can depend on the fount you're using.

Thanks for your reply Jim

I gave it a try but i couldn't see any real difference on the device. Maybe a tad better in the simulator :)

I've been using BMFont (https://www.angelcode.com/products/bmfont/) to generate the fnt files along with the PNG's, using the preset options basically (except changing font size).

Anything i need to consider when generating the fonts to make them work as good as possible? Any specific program recommendation for generating fonts?

your font has to be already antialiasing,

in BMfont make sure in "Font Settings", "Font smoothing" and clear type is on.

Ah, there it is. That did the trick. In combination with Jim's answer my font now looks super crisp!
