Connect IQ & Training effect

Hi,

Can Connect IQ access real-time Training effect? Some Suunto watches (older ones perhaps, T3C/T4) have a function to display the amount of time it will take to reach the next level of TE (at current level of exertion). Also allows user to set goal TE level in a specified time. Watch guides user (speed up/slow down) to reach goal.

Anyone know whether this is feasible?

Thanks

+1 for this. Used to love this on my T3
  • I remember seeing someone else asking about this at one point, but I can't locate the thread (maybe it was this one and I'm just senile). When I looked into this initially, my first thought is that this something that could be implemented by the developer. You can read about the details of the training effect calculation here:

    Nice light reading. :)

However, I'm fairly certain this will be available on all of our devices (I haven't been able to confirm the vivoactive yet), so I'll do some checking to see whether this is something we can expose in the API.

I thought TE was an existing metric that can be displayed just like you could with PACE. not really looked at it but I assumed it was cumulative from start of session.

the function to say how long until the next level sounds interesting idea. relies on the te being right tho and I'm gettgin quite different values from different software packages I use.

I just purchased a cheap T3C from ebay for this reason. Thinking back, I did actually put this idea forward through the web-site suggestion box - But that was in 2011 when the 610 came out.

    Thanks

I use Firstbeat Athlete, and results do differ from my 620 - However, I believe that the TE algorithms on the 620 and other watches is more up-to-date than my Athlete software. The value reported by the watch should be ok, assuming that personal settings are set correctly, and you've done sufficient runs for the watch to tune the activity level.

I downloaded the ConnectIQ stuff a while ago, but no time to play! Have some spare time now, so will take a look.

    Thanks

  • @the5krunner: You're correct--this is an existing metric on some devices. It's just not something available to the Connect IQ API right now. We've opened several tickets to explore the addition of more on-device metrics, so hopefully we can make this available in future releases.
