Images - avoiding washed out/pixelation in colors

Every time I download an image from the web and resize it for use on my fenix 3, it ends up being very washed out or pixelated.

What's the best method of avoiding this? I initially thought it might have been using colors that weren't in the fenix 3's palette, but I'm not sure if it's that or just decreased image quality from resizing.

Any tips for a newb?
  • Fenix 3 screen is able to display only 16 colors. So most of the colors are not present in its palette. So I think it tries to dither to reach a color closer to the specified color.
Also some colors will be worse when backlight is used. Best way is not using images with mixed colors and convert them to Fenix 3 palette. I added these colors to Gimp as a palette and use it while doing sth. for ConnectIQ. This way you can specify the colors in drawables.xml file, so that they'll have a smaller size in PRG files. Supported colors and color codes are present in the UXGuide or the other. Check them.
