Problems with the Connect IQ Store

Hi,

I have a number of problems with the Connect IQ Store.

1 Choosing the language of the Store has an effect on what apps are shown in the Web (PC) version of the Store.
In my case this means that my app (Sprints) is NOT visible in the Store when English is chosen as the language. (My app uses English as its user interface language - and currently only English).
However, it IS visible, under the Category 'Better Living Through Apps', when I tried a number of other languages (German, French, Finnish).

2. Another inconsistency: in the Mobile version (for Android) of the Connect IQ Store, my app IS visible (language is English).

3. The Categories of the Store do not follow - or follow vaguely only - the Categories that you, as a developer, define for your app. For example, I chose 'Lifestyles' as the Category for my 'Sprints' app. Yes, there is a semantic relationship to 'Better Living Through Apps' (the Category in the Store, under which it can be found in languages other than  English), but is there a reason not to have the same categories in both places?
One result of this inconsistency: after you published your app, you have to guess in which Category of the Store it lands. If you don't find it under the Category that you assume it should be under - as it happened to me, when I didn't find my app when English was chosen -, you can start looking through similar sounding Categories of the Store.

4. The page of the app in the Connect IQ store has no information about the Store's Category, either. Thus, you might be able to find your app in the Store by searching for it using some keywords, but it doesn't help you to identify the Category it is in.

5. Navigation on the Store's page on the Web (PC) is pretty bad: for example, if you open a Category and start going through it page by page, and then you decide to go back to the entry page of the Store, there is no link for that. The only way you can do it is by clicking on the 'Back' link of your browser, which first brings you back to the previous pages of the Category you are currently in. You can get back to the entry page only after you reached the first page of the Category.

Has anyone else noticed these problems? And has there been any effort by Garmin to solve them? All of these issues look trivial to solve from an IT perspective, thus I am wondering why Garmin hasn't solved them by now.

  • Hi,

Answering my post: Nr. 1 is currently solved: my 'Sprints' app is now visible - also when English is chosen as the language - under the Category 'Better Living Through Apps', though this was not the case for several days. Might have been a weird temporal problem.
